Back when I was 10 or 11 I was swinging on the monkey bars and gracefully slammed my face into the metal bar... chipping my two front teeth. Back then, for some crazy reason, I thought the best course of action was to hide it from my Mom just so I didn't have to go to the dentist! So, I didn't talk or smile for a whole day! But after a while I forgot and quickly remembered once my Mom freaked out and ripped my mouth open wondering what the heck happened to my teeth! So, I was forcefully dragged to the dentist to get it fixed! Not a fun experience considering I had to get a shot in the roof of my mouth! Then all was forgotten until I turned 16. It was a Friday (probably the 13th!) and I was going to a school dance the next day. When all of a sudden... I cracked my front tooth replacement on a sucker! Now this one was really scary because it was after hours so I thought I was going to have to cancel my date the next day (which we all know is traumatic for a 16-year old)! Talk about a 16-year old interrupted! But, my Mom lovingly talked the dentist into coming in to his office after hours to fix my tooth so I could go to the dance. And, he agreed! But, I still had to get a shot in the roof of my mouth!!! But, all was well again....
until Thursday night!
I was enjoying a delicious steak cooked by my awesome E when I felt a little bit of a crumble near my front tooth. And, I knew instantly that it wasn't good. So, I raced to the mirror and lo and behold that dang tooth was chipped AGAIN! And, I'm still avoiding the dentist, given I haven't been in like 5 years! But, now I know, the one thing that gets me into the dentist is the constant need to fix my front tooth! Maybe it's destiny's way of saying... "If you would just go to the dentist regularly, I wouldn't have to break your teeth!" So, I grudgingly find a dentist that will take me on a moment's notice yesterday! And, all I can say is that I love technology! I don't know what has changed since the first two times I went through this experience but I did NOT have to have a shot in the roof of my mouth (which is probably the most painful thing I've ever experienced)! The 'god' of a dentist was able to fix me all up without shooting me up!
It was a little awkward and not the most comfortable 45 minutes of my life. But, I am very grateful that I got in quickly and that my tooth is whole yet again. And.. that I didn't have to experience that fat lip, numb face, drooling mess caused by getting a shot in the roof of the mouth!
I'm wondering how old I'll be the next time I have to go in.. I guess one thing I can count on is that it will happen again... unless I start going to the dentist regularly I guess.
So, I made an appointment for a cleaning for both me and E... who I have to drag with me because he is the avoider of all things doctors or dentists!

Don't worry too much! Darrell and I avoided going to the dentist for over 10 years! We finally went and I had a couple cavaties (in between my teeth which is from lack of flossing!) and Darrell only had a couple too! Not too bad for missing the dentist that long time, I thought for sure there'd be root canals or something! Guess it's always worse then you think it will be! Good Luck getting E in! Darrell hasn't been since I forced him last! LOL!!
